A study and analysis was conducted to extend the work of the Air Traffic Control Advisory Committee in defining a Fourth Generation Air Traffic Control System capable of safe and economical management of CONUS and oceanic air traffic in the post 1990 time period. The analysis considered several candidate systems capable of managing air traffic over a wide variety of operational conditions. The relative advantages and disadvantages of each were identified and compared with the Upgraded Third Generation Air Traffic Control System. Technology requirements for the new concepts were identified and a development plan established. (Author)
