Suppose that commuter journeys are constrainted by a fixed point arrival time at workplace, they must allow a safety margin in their departure time to improve the probability of lateness. The paper empirically analyses the day-to-day variability of departure time at home, travel time and arrival time, and estimates the disutility function of arrival time. It is shown that target time of arrival on commuter journey is individually appointed, and its appointment depends on the mean and standard deviation of travel time, safety margin, and duration of activity at workplace before work starting time.
