The purpose of the proposed improvement is to provide a safe, efficient highway facility which will extend the present one-way system and merge the heavy traffic on the one-way system through the central business district of Grand Island back into two-directional traffic of U.S. Highway 30. To accomplish this, a segment of U.S. Highway 30 will be improved along existing alignment to accommodate westbound traffic. First Street will be extended easterly, on new alignment, to provide for eastbound traffic and to merge this traffic back into US-30 two-way traffic flow. Proposed construction begins at Vine Street, proceeding easterly about 2,400 feet to a termination point. Environmental effects include land use; and relocation of houses and storm sewers.
