The primary objective of this study was to determine the shape and weight of an STP Standard Satellite which would have a maximum probability of being launched 'piggy-back' on an STS mission between 1980-1990. The study was conducted in two parts. Part 1 consisted of two tasks, Mission Analysis and System Analysis. In these tasks, a shuttle mission model was selected, preliminary STP-STD-satellite capabilities defined and each shuttle mission examined to determine the excess volume and weight available.
