Measurements of villus dimensions were made on jejunal mucosal biopsy specimens from 16 Vietnamese residents of the Mekong River delta of the Republic of Vietnam and from 13 North Americans who were asymptomatic and had no history of previous tropical exposure. There were marked differences between the two populations with respect to villus dimensions and histological characteristics of jejunal mucosa. Differences between the arithmetic means of all dimensions in the two groups were statistically highly significant. (Author)
