Spatial disorientation has been recognized for a long time as a hazard to aviation. Since the U. S. Army is the free world's largest user of helicopters, this study was designed to investigate this problem in Army aviation. The purpose is to show the nature and magnitude of this problem, and to learn from helicopter accident experience where design improvements are needed. (Author)
