A project was initiated to determine the additional cost involved in preparing glued unit loads for shipment. The report contains details of a series of time studies conducted with an average crew at NSD, Bayonne actually performing glued unit loading operations considered comparable to those common in the industrial field. These studies involved the loading of freight cars by hand, placing cartons (a) loose in the car, (b) on pallets in the car and (c) glued to pallets in the car following receipt at the car by (a) roller conveyor and (b) by four wheel dollies or platform trucks.
