The volume reports research on driver judgment and decision-making performed to obtain an understanding of the driver judgment problems associated with the pass-no-pass decision, and on the basis of this understanding to recommend remediation aimed at increasing passing-decision accuracy. The technical approach was to determine the ability of drivers to judge and take into account the time, speed, and distance variables which together determine whether or not a given passing opportunity is safe to accept.
