We reviewed selected aspects of the Army's plans for acquisition of the Enhanced Fiber Optic Guided Missile (EFOG-M) system. The Army plans to acquire limited quantities of the system for the Rapid Force Projection Initiative (RFPI) Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ACTO) and field them for a 2-year user evaluation. The Army expects the limited acquisition to cost about $280 million, but, based on the results of the demonstration and evaluation, a much larger acquisition could occur. We focused our review on the acquisition of the EFOG-M system and did not evaluate the ACTD process. We conducted this review under our basic legislative responsibilities but are addressing the report to you because it discusses matters we believe warrant consideration by your committees.
