This report describes the activities, data analysis, conclusions and recommendations of a four year study to evaluate the seasonal effects on measured pavement friction. Eighteen road sections were tested over a four year period from the fall of 1977 through the spring of 1981. Traffic usage, climatological data, material samples and friction tests were collected. Predictor models were developed using dummy variables to account for seasonal variations in pavement friction for seven different pavement types in use in Indiana. Coefficients of determination for these models ranged from 0.63 to 0.88.
