The existing runway at the Valdez Airport is an unlighted unsurfaced gravel embankment, approximately 150 feet wide by 4,400 feet long, with a contiguous apron-taxiway. The proposed project contemplates: Construction of a new runway safety area three connecting taxiways and apron-taxiway; Surface treatment of the runway, connecting taxiways and the apron; installation of medium intensity edge lighting system, for the runway, taxiway and apron; installation of airport rotating beacon, and lighted wind cone and segmented circle; and airport security fencing. Environmental impacts and adverse effects are discussed.
