This report marks a departure from the previous volumes of road orders published by the Virginia Transportation Research Council, as it contains road orders that are not among the records of the county court. This volume covers the surviving Hanover County transportation records for the first half of the 18th century and includes the earliest surviving transportation-related records for a significant parent county of central Virginia. This publication marks the twenty-second entry in the Historic Roads of Virginia series, first initiated by the Virginia Transportation Research Council (then the Virginia Highway & Transportation Research Council) in 1973.
