The purpose of the Motor Carrier Evaluation Program is to develop a set of standards or guidelines that can be used to evaluate the ability of motor carriers to safely transport Highway Route Controlled Quantities (HRCQ) and Truckload (TL) quantities of radioactive and hazardous materials or wastes owned by the US Department of Energy (DOE). This program document consists of a narrative report detailing the criteria and methodology used to objectively evaluate potential motor carriers. A sample Motor Carrier Evaluation/Carrier Profile and a Motor Carrier Inspection Data Sheet are included as appendices to this report. Organizations offering hazardous materials, such as radioactive materials and hazardous chemicals or wastes for transportation, have a regulatory and ethical responsibility to select transporters that are in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to the transportation of these commodities. 8 refs.
