The purpose of this project is to provide a limited access highway for traffic using Traffic Routes 22 and 220 in order to relieve congestion, particularly truck traffic, and hazards on the Appalachia road system. The project will require the removal of 63 single family residences, 2 of which are vacant, 2 multi-family dwellings, 13 mobile homes, 13 business establishments and 60 other structures. Adverse environmental effects which cannot be avoided include: the close proximity of the interchange between routes 22 and 220 to a township school, the location of route 22 between the senior high school and a junior high school, the close proximity of route 22 to a park recreational area and a Little League ball field, the temporary loss of tax base to the municipalities involved due to properties taken for right of way purposes, the temporary water pollution due to erosion during construction, and the possible temporary pollution due to using deicing chemicals during the winter months.
