An overview of the study for analyzing the HOPE (H-2 Orbiting Plane) utilization, which will be launched by the H-2 launch vehicle by the end of the 1990's, and the HOPE contributions to the progress in science and technology is presented. A questionnaire was sent out for potential user organizations of the HOPE, namely, universities, national laboratories, foundations, and private enterprises. Also, other methods such as cross impact matrix method, are being used to clarify the relation between the manufacture of high quality glass under microgravity and the technological development.
