Electrothermal-Chemical launch (ETC) is a launch technology using electric energy to ignite and/or control the combustion of the propellant in a gun. The electric energy requirements of ETC are considerably less than for rail- and coilguns. ECT is therefore considered as the launch technology closest to introduction in active service. This report contains an overview of the ECT research area, a description of the most common designs to introduce electric energy into the combustion chamber, some lines of development. And a little about integration of ETC with other systems in a combat vehicle. The purpose is to give an introduction to ETC, point out possible capacity enhancements, and make an estimate of the feasibility.
