Preliminary tests were made with DRL's Towed Vehicle Locator (TOVLOC) on the Canadian hydrofoil HMCS BADDECK 13-17 December 1966 near Halifax, Nova Scotia, to determine how much the performance of TOVLOC is degraded by the acoustic noise of the hydrofoil. The tests showed that TOVLOC can be used to track the BADDECK's towed vehicle at speeds up to 15 kt, and suggested that modifications to TOVLOC may permit towed vehicle location at high towing speeds.
