Field testing was performed on Colorado highways on open graded plant mix seals, dense graded bituminous pavement, and Portland cement concrete. The data developed by these tests show that a motor vehicle traveling at 45 mph produces less noise on open graded plant mix seal coats, as a group, than on other types of pavement. Traffic noise measured at 25 feet from the moving vehicle is significantly lower for the more open graded Colorado Type A than for any other pavement tested.
