The manner in which three different designs of railway track spring fastening clips deform when the rail is displaced in an upward direction was analyzed by holographic interferometry. From fringe patterns obtained by recording double exposure holograms the vector displacements of points along the clip surface were determined quantitatively, together with their angular rotations.
