Computer systems programs were produced to provide travel information for multi-mode public transport journeys to benefit the public and the transport operators. The objective was to achieve shorter journey times, fewer interchanges and more trip-opportunities. For ten months the travel enquiry bureaus and libraries of three towns in Wiltshire used the COM-fiche output which gave information on travel to various destinations in the county. The benefits of the system were assessed only by attitudinal surveys of staff and the public, due to problems in obtaining quantitative data on the actual effect of the guide on the use of multimode journeys.
