This report describes a radar-based truck convoy system. The lead truck will be driven manually, while following trucks will be controlled automatically by headway and steering controllers that use range and azimuth information from the radar sensors. A key part of the concept is an inexpensive, passive, radar retro-reflector target that is placed on the back of each truck. Development of this device comprised a major part of this effort. The reflector is a planar antenna constructed from inexpensive rugged materials with roughly the shape and size of a license plate.
