The objective of this study was to develop a model that would forecast First Destination Transportation (FDT) costs for transportation budgeting purposes. naval personnel from both Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center (DNTSRDC) made a study of the Air Force's methodology for forecasting its FDT requirements. Actually, the required criteria for the Navy FDT forecasting requirements closely parallel those of the Air Force. Thus, the Air Force method could be adapted to Navy use if the required data were available. The Air Force methodology is computer programmed. The program incorporates past and projected procurement data coupled with presently used transportation data.
