A test of the commercially produced marginal terrain vehicle, having a 600-pound payload capacity rating, was conducted to determine the vehicle's mobility capabilities in water, swamp, and muddy terrain. The test was sponsored by the U. S. Army Tank-Automotive Command (USATAC) in an effort to determine possible suitability of the vehicle as a small load carrier over the terrains mentioned. The XE-4 Armadillo (tracked amphibian), developed by the U. S. Army Mobility Equipment Research and Development Center (USAMERDC), Fort Belvoir, Virginia, was used as a comparison vehicle on a 'go, no-go' basis during mobility operations at all test sites except the lily pad marsh terrain at Chickahominy River site and on paved surfaces.
