The results of a concept design study of high-speed wheeled amphibious vehicles are presented as Volume 1 of a two-volume study. The basic technical and operational problems of high water speed are examined. Six basic concepts are presented to exemplify potential mechanical solutions. Five concepts concern planing hull types with retractable wheels; one example is based on the vehicle train concept. (Author)
