The possibilities of deceleration, stabilization, control, and rotation of submunitions by aerodynamic deceleration systems such as parachutes, rotating parachutes, or ballutes are surveyed. The criteria for the design of intelligent submunitions are discussed. Drag, reefing, and stability or nonrotating parachutes are treated. Rotor quality number, and transferable rolling moment of rotating parachutes are discussed.
