The report investigates the feasibility, suitability and benefits of IVHS in Arizona. The report identifies travelers needs in each of four IVHS areas: Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS), Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), Automatic Vehicle Control Systems (AVCS) and Fleet Management and Control Systems (FMCS). An assessment of the state-of-the-art technologies to meet these needs is presented within the context of an international review of IVHS related initiatives. The suitability and potential benefits of IVHS development in Arizona are then presented by determining the integration and expansion of these programs into a broader IVHS initiative for the state. Key projects and milestones are identified for Arizona complementing and extending the national IVHS program. The framework for the development of IVHS in Airzona is presented in a statewide program for Arizona.
