The essay is a general overview of urban transportation problems and discussion of recent trends, evidence of areas of improvements and the problems that arise from tendency to rely upon the automobile and highways as the dominant solution to peoples desire for speedy movement between place of residence and place of work. The environmental pollution created by such heavy dependence on the motor transport is also discussed.
