The report provides information on what actions the Department of Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) has taken in response to GAO's prior pipeline safety report (Need to Assess Federal Role in Regulating and Enforcing Pipeline Safety, GAO/RCED-84-102, July 10, 1984); it discusses problems with RSPA's pipeline safety data systems which we previously identified; and it summarizes the results of the RSPA's inspection of Williams Pipeline Company (Williams) since 1980.
