Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company, and the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics submitted contract price adjustment claims to the Navy between 1968 and 1976 to increase contract costs for various ships by about $1.8 billion. Navy officials alleged that parts of the claims contained false or fraudulent statements and referred these allegations to Justice. Justice investigated the claims with assistance from the Navy between 1975 and 1983.
