The stern section of a modern merchant ship, built with machinery and deckhouse aft, is the most labor and capital intensive portion of a ship's construction. This study analyzed the feasibility of standardizing the design and construction of this portion of a ship, for application to a wide variety of merchant ship types, as a means of improving commercial shipbuilding producibility.
