Section 151 of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966, as amended, requires that if a manufacturer (1) obtains knowledge that any motor vehicle or item of replacement equipment manufactured by him contains a defect and determines in good faith that such defect relates to motor vehicle safety; or (2) determines in good faith that such vehicle or item of replacement equipment does not comply with an applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standard prescribed pursuant to section 103 of the Act; he shall furnish notification to the Secretary and to owners, purchasers, and dealers, in accordance with section 153, and he shall remedy the defect or failure to comply in accordance with section 154.
