The usage rate is one of the basic factors used in the determination of the range and depth of repair parts carried aboard Navy ships. The prototype usage rate system for ship's repair parts was developed in 1963. Since then, the system has been refined, improved and extended so that virtually all ship repair parts are covered. Previous documentation on the usage rate computational process and data collection systems has been couched in technical terms. The purpose of the report is to provide a general (non-technical) description of the logic used in computing usage rates. (Author)
