A summary is presented of the history: of the efforts to establish 22 conventional bus routes to carry low-income workers on Long Island to concentrations of employment on Long Island; of the creation of two small-vehicle bus systems to give more of a personalized and 'custom-built' bus service to Long Island's poor; and, finally, of the setting up of a bus information center where people could phone a central point to find out about bus schedules and bus routes serving Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
