A survey is presented of laser and optoelectronic applications for guidance and navigation of air and spacecraft; relevant trends of these new technologies and systems are pointed out. The applications are dominant in the field of communication and measuring techniques. The following subjects are included: Airborne and ground based laser communication, lidar for measuring range, position and velocity of air and spacecrafts, optical remote sensing and clear air turbulence detection, visual range measurement by laser, laser gyroscope and accelerometer, altitude and airspeed measuring laser techniques.
