A spaceflight mission in which a camera will be operated for cartographic purposes above selected test areas is described. The African continent is given as an example. The limited storage capacity of the film, optimal orbits adapted to different focal lengths of the camera objective, and launch and retrieval with the space shuttle are among the topics studied. The satellite system is based on the concept of a small modular subsatellite and thruster platform.
