The report discusses the basic concepts of superconductive machines and their potential for use in ship propulsion systems. Several compact, high-power density machines and transmission systems are described. Related Research and Development efforts in this country and abroad are summarized together with the present state-of-the-art and the potential for future development. Sources of information found during a literature survey are given in an appendix. (Author)
