Results are given of surveys, conducted in May and June 1985, of (1) urban car travel, (2) inter-urban car travel, (3) urban bus travel and (4) inter-urban rail and coach travel. Each of these studies dealt with private non-work travel. In addition, the two urban studies looked at commuting. For each study the authors report (a) the unique aspects of each investigation and how these were incorporated into the survey design and execution, and (b) the most important findings from the surveys.
