Aircraft crashworthiness is examined from the perspective of safety and regulation. The past and anticipated evolution of crash-related regulations is described. Two main areas of regulatory concern for the future are identified and discussed: acceleration attenuation (including modification of safety standards related passenger seating) and passenger evacuation.
