This research deals with the transmission of stream traffic through packet switched networks. Stream traffic communication is characterized by (1) a requirement of small response time and moderate throughput, the fact that (2) timing is an integral part of the information, and that (3) the information is redundant and somewhat tolerable to loss. Remote voice communication provides an example of stream traffic communications.
