The Model Area Project in the city of Sundsvall, referred to as MOPS, is concerned with the development and evaluation of public transport and aims at practically testing and further developing the results from the latest year's projects in order to find more effective, more attractive and more environmentally friendly public transport. The object is to show that public transport can be improved so that its use increase, that private vehicle traffic decreases, that environmental improvements in cities can be obtained and that it is economical from the point of view of the company running the public transport. The aim is to carry this out by the year 2000.
