Three examples for optimal 3-dimensional flight paths are discussed: Maximum lateral range descent from earth orbit; influence of altitude dependency of vehicle polar. Synergetic plane change maneuver for close-earth circular orbits: influence of altitude dependency of vehicle polar, and influence of load factor limitation. A combined braking-plane change maneuver for the exploration of planets with high density atmospheres.
