The Institute of Transport Economics (TOI) and Molde Research Institute have developed a comprehensive model system for short distance travel demand in Norway. Distinguishing between five travel purposes, the model predicts license holding, car ownership, trip frequency, choice of destination and choice of mode within a nested logit structure. Trips are modelled at a fairly detailed geographic level, almost 14 000 zones being specified nationwide. A newly developed module treats the subscription and use of seasonal passes among public transport users as a separate nest.
