It is apparent from the literature that there is a lack of knowledge in the specifications for the maintenance of cycle tracks. It can only be shown that there are some relationships between criteria of maintenance and aspects of safety and riding comfort. On the basis of these relationships a more fundamental selection can be made for the specifications to be applied. For a further quantification the following are considered: (1) The relationship between the unevenness and the stability, the vehicle handling and the rolling resistance; (2) the relationship between the water layer and stability; (3) the relationship between the roughness and the braking power of mopeds on wet roads and in bends; (4) The relationship between the visibility of carriageway marking and vehicle handling; (5) the relationship between dirt on the road and safety; and (6) the relationship between the road surface and vibration.
