The translation describes the investigations of radiation, carried out by a group of colleagues of Moscow State University and the Physical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR under the leadership of S. N. Vernov and A. Ye. Chudakov, with the help of Soviet artificial earth satellites and space rockets launched in the (IGY) period during 1957-1959. For the considered period in the Soviet Union investigations of radiation were produced using two artificial satellites and three space rockets. As a result, considerable experimental material has been accumulated which has nowhere been systematically published. The subsequent chapters give a survey of results of these investigations, a detailed description of the equipment used, and the methods of transmission.
