The report describes the magnitude of the alcohol related fatal crash problem in the United States, highlights the circumstances under which fatal crashes are associated with alcohol, and presents recent trends in alcohol related fatal traffic crashes. Data are presented which describe the general characteristics of these crashes, and their participants. The data in the report were obtained from the Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS) maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
