A project is described which proposes to extend, rehabilitate, groove and mark, and to install a new MIRL lighting system, including a VASI-4 system, on Runway 8L/26R. The project also includes the installation of blast protection on Runway 8R/26L and Taxiways C in their entirety, grooving and marking of the runway, enlarging fillets on either end of the runway and at the intersections of Taxiway A and D, the widening of Taxiway D, reconstruction of failing areas on Taxiway C, and reconstruction of portions of the high-speed turnoffs and Taxiway D on their approach end to Taxiway C at Stapleton International Airport. The project will not have any consequential or measurable effect on the environment of the Airport or the surrounding community. The related surrounding community is an area of dry gulch lowlands that is not used for any worthwhile purpose. The project will provide needed facilities for better safety of aircraft movement and the traveling public and particularly more capacity during times of emergency or high aircraft activity.
