The forward-motion latch and lock is used in a missile launching system in which the missiles are stored in the magazine in a vertical position. The mechanical latch is located in the path of the missile and is engaged by the aft shoe of the missile which arrests the missile until sufficient thrust is provided to overcome a restraining spring. The thrust is used to sustain the missile in flight.
