This study was a pilot project designed to analyze the efficiency and condition of in-use catalysts on high-mileage vehicles. These 1975 model year vehicles were originally all public-owned and were obtained from an earlier EPA project (Restorative Maintenance Evaluation of High Mileage, Catalyst-Equipped Vehicles, conducted for EPA by Automotive Testing Laboratories, Inc., EPA Contract No. 68-03-2413). Tables I and II present descriptions, miles accumulated and FTP results for these nine vehicles from this past report. For the current project the catalysts were removed from the vehicles and tested for conversion efficiency and pressure drop. The catalysts were then subjected to visual, chemical and physical analysis to provide data on their in-use condition.
