The report describes the proposed improvement of US-54 from approximately four hundred feet west of Walnut Street in the City of Augusta, Kansas to the west end of the Walnut River Bridge east of Augusta, to provide for two lanes in each direction, separated by a center median, with at-grade intersections at Walnut Street, State Street, School Street, and Osage Street and overpassing Dearborn Street, The St. Louis and San Francisco Railway Company tracks, the tracks of The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company, and a connection between Ohio Streets and Frisco Streets. Access will be controlled from School Street to the west end of the Walnut River Bridge, with adjacent properties being served by existing streets, alleys, and new frontage roads. The length of the two Projects will be approximately one and one-quarter miles, including twin overpass structures which are approximately one thousand feet long. A summary of beneficial and adverse environmental effects is given.
