Testing of automobiles, trucks, buses, or other vehicles can be conducted at a number of U.S. test facilities. The assessment documents an investigation of the capabilities of the test facilities to conduct tests of transit buses similar to those which will be required under Section 317 (b) of the Surface Transportation and Uniform Relocation Assistance Act (STURAA) of 1987. The STURAA requires testing new transit bus models for maintainability, reliability, safety, performance, structural integrity, fuel economy, and noise. The report provides a review of existing vehicle test facilities in the United States. It presents information on the types of tests which have been conducted at the test facilities, test facility layouts and significant features, and, where available, prices for conducting tests at the facilities. Requirements for facility modifications in order to conduct the tests are identified.
